It was established in 1969 at the initiative of the composer, musicologist and conductor Hristo Pitev. From 1974 to 1990 Maestro Milko Kolarov was the Art Director of the chamber group. His name is connected to the first major achievements of the orchestra, as well as to the tours and guest performances in Germany, Poland, Hungary, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Czech Republic, Slovakia, France and Spain. The chamber orchestra is the chief organizer of the Days of Chamber Music in Gabrovo. Since 1992 Maestro Ivan Stoyanov, conductor of Gabrovo Chamber Orchestra has been the Art Director of the Festival.
